A 25-year-old man was killed and six others injured after a speeding Mahindra Bolero lost control on the Purvanchal Expressway in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday, according to police. The vehicle, carrying seven residents of Ambedkar Nagar, was travelling from Lucknow towards their village when the accident took place.
The deceased has been identified as Ansar. Expressway personnel launched immediate rescue operations and shifted all the injured to a hospital in Kumar Ganj, where doctors pronounced Ansar dead.
Police said the exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined. Officers suspect the vehicle may have collided with the divider or was struck by an unidentified vehicle, though these claims remain unconfirmed. Haliyapur police station sub-inspector Bhagwati Prasad confirmed that the cause of the accident is still being investigated. Ansar’s body has been sent for a postmortem following the completion of inquest proceedings.
Four of the injured — Durgesh Singh (25), Rohit (24), Rakesh (34), and Bolero driver Sari Mohan (22) — were reported to be in serious condition after initial treatment. They have been referred to the Medical College in Darshan Nagar for further care. Two others, Manish Yadav (24) and Arpit Vishwakarma (17), are currently undergoing treatment at the Kumar Ganj hospital.
The incident highlights the ongoing concerns over road safety on expressways in Uttar Pradesh, where speeding vehicles frequently cause fatal accidents. Authorities have yet to release any additional details regarding the probe.
