In a significant law enforcement operation, police in Khatkhati conducted a routine checkpoint on Thursday afternoon that resulted in the seizure of a large cache of illegal drugs. The operation, which took place at approximately 3 PM in front of the State Bank of India (SBI), led to the arrest of a suspected drug supplier, highlighting the ongoing battle against narcotics in the region.

The operation was led by Bokajan sub-divisional police officer Rustam Raj Brahma, alongside Khatkhati police station officer-in-charge Nitul Saikia and other personnel from the station. During their routine inspection, officers targeted a truck with the registration number AS 01 RC 3587, which was traveling from Dimapur to Guwahati.
Upon thorough inspection, police discovered 48 packets of narcotics cleverly concealed in a hidden compartment located above the truck’s cabin. The total weight of the seized drugs amounted to an astonishing 50.520 kilograms, carrying an estimated market value of nearly ₹2.5 crore. This enormous haul underscores the pressing issue of drug trafficking in the region and the lengths to which traffickers will go to evade law enforcement.
In connection with this operation, Police arrested Gokul Podell, a 34-year-old man from Bishnupur district in Manipur. Podell is believed to be a supplier in this illicit drug trade. Following his apprehension, police have initiated an extensive interrogation process to gather more information about the drug network and any potential accomplices involved in this operation.
