The ongoing nationwide protests against the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata have found an unfortunate echo in Dibrugarh. A woman was allegedly molested by two miscreants in the Milan Nagar locality on Sunday evening, resulting in widespread community anger.

The police have quickly responded by arresting the two accused and initiating legal proceedings under the relevant sections of the law. According to sources from The Assam Tribune, the victim, an employee of a local shop, was on her way home when the incident occurred.
“I was on my way home at 8 pm when two youths on a scooter approached me and touched me inappropriately. I immediately sought help from a passerby, but they managed to escape,” recounted the victim. Following the ordeal, she lodged an FIR at the Milan Nagar Police Station.
Conveying her distress and concern, the victim emphasized that her case was part of a disturbing trend in the locality, citing rising incidents of drug peddling, smuggling, and eve-teasing. “Today I became the victim; tomorrow it might be someone else. I need justice,” she urged, calling for stringent measures to ensure community safety.
The incident has provoked strong reactions from various organizations, including the local students’ union, which have condemned the act. The widespread outrage reflects the community’s growing discontent over increasing criminal activities and the urgent call for enhanced safety measures.
As the legal process unfolds, the focus remains on securing justice for the victim and implementing stronger safeguards to protect the residents of Milan Nagar from such heinous acts in the future.
