Guwahati: The Aviation Safety Week is being observed from 25th -29th November at all North East Airports under Airports Authority of India. It is celebrated during the last week of November every year. This time also, the Regional Headquarter of NER, AAI is celebrating it keeping safety as the paramount in aviation.
The Aviation safety week was jointly inaugurated by the Executive Director of Indian Oil Refinery, Guwahati Shri S. Manchanda and the Regional Executive Director, AAI- North East Region Shri Sanjeev Jindal in presence of General Managers, Head of the Aviation safety Department and AAI officials.
Addressing the officials, Chief Guest Shri Manchanda said that whenever there is a lapse, a system fails and when system fails we are like helpless situation. Need is that we should not by pass any safety procedures. Safety is the measure through which we learn, evolve and implement our skills in a system. I am thankful to you all that by participating in such programmes, I got to learn many things about the aviation safety, he added.
Welcoming the chief guest and the participants, Shri Jindal said that Safety is an integral part of all machinery that we work on. At Airports and in aviation, we are working in a glamorous sector that attracts glory and attention of many people. Another aspect is speed and safety at speed of sound is very tricky as the aircrafts are flying against the law of nature and flying at about 1000km/hr is itself a challenge to tackle, but we have mechanism to operate it that requires safety at place all the time all the corners. But as it’s a risky business, any lapses should be observed and brought to notice and it should be welcomed, he added.
Further he said, as safety is paramount in aviation we must follow it at all spheres of life. Expectations are increasing, traffic is growing, challenges are high and to cope up with it, safety becomes paramount and core concern with zero tolerance. We should be efficient but safe also.
A press meet was also called by him where, he described about the importance and magnificent ways of implementing Aviation safety measures. He hailed the works done by the officers and described it as interesting and exciting sector to work with.
‘We need three stages to Complete an action plan and to conceptualize it, i.e. Planning, executing and commissioning it, which involves the role of Govt agencies such as, DGCA, BCAS, Ministries and stakeholders like airlines, CISF, concessioners’ Shri Jindal said.
Activities of Bird-hit that affects airport operations were also discussed adopting guidelines, SOPs and involvement of local administration.
A presentation by GM-ATM Shri R.G Lama and Dy, GM Shri M.Y Yaseen, AAI was also shown on the occasion which focused on adoption of Safety culture for all working at airport, from a worker to top executive, It should not be practiced every day is, it highlighted. Management should take remedial action to implement the safety culture and aware all working in an airport, the presentation showcased.
