Guwahati : An extremist Camp belonging to NSCN(R) and ZUF was busted and two insurgents with an AK 56 rifle and ammunition were apprehended during an operation in Cachar district of Assam, police said on Saturday.amumnations.
On the basis of source information Assam Rifles 37 Bn. and police personnel from Jirighat PS and in collaboration with Lakhipur Police Sub-Division launched an operation in the thick jungles of Ramgaizan area on Friday night and destroyed the makeshift camp used by NSCN(R) and ZUF cadres to carry out their activities in Zeliangrong region, police said.
In the operation two cadres were apprehended and one AK-56 rifle with huge quantity of ammunition were recovered.
In spot interrogation the cadres were identified as NSCN (R) self styled Lieutenant Pougonglong and ZUF’s SS Captain Sagu Rongmai, the sources said.
Both the cadres were involved in illegal extortion, kidnapping and criminal activities in Zeliangrong region. A search operation is on to nab two cadres who fled away from the camp at the time of the operation. The recoveries include one AK 56 Rifle, 20 rounds of cartridges of 7.62 mm, 123 rounds of cartridges of 5.56 mm of M16, besides extortion slip book, mobile phones, various household items from the their hidden campsite.
