Guwahati : At least 13 persons, including two seriously, were injured in a blast in a fire works factory in Barpeta district on Monday on the eve of Diwali, police officials said.
When the workers of Assam Fireworks Industry were producing firecrackers a sudden blast occurred and the fire injured 13 workers, including two women seriously with almost 50 per cent burn injuries.
All the wounded were sent to Fakruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College Hospital here.
The workers said many saved their life by jumping into a nearby pond from where they were rescued.
The fire completely destroyed the industry even as fire brigade personnel who rushed there to put out the fire, they said.
The injured were identified as Maijan Nesa, Nomola Begum, Basaton Nesa, forAstami Das, Pramila Das, Phool Bhanu, Maijaan Begum, Samaton Nesa, Giraton Nesa, Deepjyoti Das, Sanatan Das, Dharmendra Das and Abhay Das.
