Guwahatit: On the beginning of winter season a high velocity storm accompanied by rain, thunder and lightening lashed Jorhat on Monday morning crippling normal life. The storm was as heavy as uprooted trees and electric poles.
The storm at the speed of 40 to 50 km per hour with heavy downpour uprooted trees in Jorhat town falling on the roof of a junior college named Crescent Academy and also on the roof of mid-day meal preparation kitchen of Bolia Gohain ME School on Na Ali road.
As well as the storm uprooted banyan trees which fell on several private houses where the residents manged to escape narrowly in the town. The high velocity winds blew off tin roofs of several houses, pushed cycle rickshaws distances away and felled cycles to the ground.
Some of the worst effected areas by uprooted trees were the campus of Jorhat Military Station, Judicial Magistrate Officers residences campus and the Deputy Commissioner’s residence area which forcing DC Roshni Aparanji Koreati to walk to the main gate of her residence as a number of trees blocked the approach road.
