Huge quantities of heroin, worth over Rs 16 crore in the international market, was seized following a day-long operation and four persons were apprehended from Assam’s Karimganj district, police said on Friday.
Acting on specific inputs, a police team, led by Additional Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das, launched an operation in areas under Ramkrishna Nagar police station on Thursday and it continued till early on Friday in which 2.27 kgs of heroin were seized from Ishanchora village.
The drugs were packed in 175 soap boxes and hidden in a compartment of a vehicle coming from a neighbouring state and were valued at over Rs 16 crore in the international market.
The police arrested four persons who were identified as Nurul Islam, Shahid Ahmed, Hussain Ahmed Khan and Zakir Hussain, Karimganj Superintendent of Police Padmanabh Barua said.
A case has been registered against the four persons under certain sections of the NDPS Act, he added.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet said, ”another breakthrough in Assam Police’s drive against drugs. In a day-long operation, Karimganj police seized 2.275 kg of heroin packed in 175 soap cases. Four accused apprehended”.
