Guwahati: In a joint operation by Golaghat police, led by deputy SP along with the officers of directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption, has caught red handed district sports officer Manorama Das (47) on Wednesday around 5.05 PM. While the accused was accepting a bribe amount of Rs. 30 thousands from the complainant Nripen Ch. Dutta, Principal of Dhekial HS School of the district.
The bribe money has been seized from the possession of the accused. Accordingly connected documents have also been seized from this office. As per the description, government of Assam has given a sanction of Rs. 20 lakhs for up gradation of the playground of the Dhekial HS School, under Chief Minister Samagra Gramya Unayan Yojana, out of which, 8 lakhs was already released and utilized. In order to get the remaining Rs. 12 Lakhs of the said scheme, the utilization certificate has to be countersigned by the DSO.
When the complainant approached to the DSO regarding it, then accused Das has demanded a bribe Rs. 50 thousands for her counter signature. The complainant was to pay the bribe amount on Wednesday. As the complainant was unwilling to pay the bribe money, he approached the Golaghat police. He requested for necessary assistance.
Base on it, a trap team was constituted with the officers of Golaghat police and directorate of vigilance & anti-corruption, Guwahati and a trap was laid down as per standard procedure in the matter of Golaghat PS Case No. 891/2019 U/S 7(a) of the PC Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018). Further investigation is being carried on.
After this, the accused public servant has been arrested and will be forward to the special court, Guwahati on 5th September. In a press statement, SP of Directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption said about it.
