Ramanujan allegedly cooked and ate rice beside his wife’s body after killing her; explosive confession over alleged extramarital affair during police interrogation
Shocking details have emerged in connection with the murder of Riya Talukdar at Bylane No. 4, Basisthapur, Beltola, Guwahati.
During police interrogation, Riya’s husband, Ramanujan Goswami, reportedly confessed to killing his wife and stated that the murder was committed over an alleged extramarital relationship.
Ramanujan reportedly cooked and ate rice beside his wife’s body after the murder, as revealed during police interrogation.
He also reportedly stated that he remained beside the body for a considerable period, crying, before leaving the premises.
Meanwhile, Ramanujan surrendered at Dispur Police Station after the murder. He was subsequently handed over by Dispur Police to Hatigaon Police Station.
Riya Talukdar’s body was found severed into two parts at the rented house in Basisthapur. After allegedly killing her with a dao, her severed head was reportedly kept inside a refrigerator. The other portion of the body was found lying on the floor in an unclothed condition.

A dao, liquor bottles, bloodstains and other articles were reportedly recovered from the scene. Several household items were also found scattered inside the house.
According to local residents, loud noises and cries were heard from inside the house on Saturday night. Ramanujan was reportedly last seen at around 8 PM.
Neighbours have also told police that the couple frequently quarrelled. On Saturday night, they reportedly heard only Ramanujan’s voice and felt that he appeared frightened and was crying.
The house door was reportedly not secured with an internal lock. Instead, it was allegedly kept closed by pressing it with a sock, according to the investigation.
It has also been learnt that Ramanujan had changed his hairstyle on Saturday. He reportedly had a history of drug addiction and had spent around three months at a rehabilitation centre.
Riya and Ramanujan had reportedly been married for around six months. Riya Talukdar was a resident of Noonmati and worked at a boutique in AC Market, Fancy Bazar. Riya, who had reportedly lost both her parents, had one brother.
The incident came to light after neighbours informed the police following a foul smell emanating from the house. The forensic team has already begun examination of the scene.
The body has been sent to GMCH for post-mortem examination. CID has taken up further investigation into the case.
The complete motive behind the murder, sequence of events and the role of the alleged extramarital relationship are expected to become clearer as the investigation progresses.
