Cachar Police have launched a decisive crackdown on drug trafficking, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to tackling the growing drug menace in the region. According to Nomal Mahatta, Superintendent of Police for Cachar, a well-coordinated operation based on reliable intelligence was executed. On the previous evening, special raids were conducted in two separate locations: Kanakpur Part II in Silchar and Ramnagar in Sonai, leading to the apprehension of an individual and the recovery of substantial quantities of illicit substances.

During these meticulously planned operations, authorities successfully seized 44 soap cases containing approximately 572 grams of heroin. In addition, 10,000 yaba tablets were confiscated, underscoring the significant scale of the drug trafficking activities. The arrested individual has been identified as Akhtar Hussain Barbhuiya, a 20-year-old resident of New Ramnagar Part I in Sonai.
The Superintendent of Police, Nomal Mahatta, highlighted the gravity of the situation by revealing that the seized drugs hold an estimated market value of around seven crore rupees in the black market. This staggering figure reflects the substantial impact that such illegal operations could have on the community and the urgent need for continued vigilance.
Adding another layer to this complex operation, law enforcement officials also confiscated a motorcycle believed to be used in the illegal transportation of these narcotics. The investigation has uncovered that the drug consignment was illicitly transported from Vairengte in Mizoram, indicating the broader network involved in this nefarious trade.
Superintendent Mahatta emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, with efforts focused on unraveling the complete network behind this illegal operation. The authorities are determined to identify and apprehend all individuals involved, ensuring that such activities are curtailed effectively.
