Two persons have been arrested and huge quantities of opium were seized from a tanker in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on Monday, police said.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of police personnel from Borpathar police station under Bokajan sub-division intensified patrolling in the Khakrajan area and intercepted a Bitumen-carrying vehicle.
During the search, 45 kgs of opium were recovered from 42 packets hidden inside the truck.
The total value of the seized opium was estimated to be over Rs 50 lakh.
The police apprehended two persons, identified as Babulal Bichani and Jalaram Bichani, and both hail from Rajasthan, the police official added.
