In a significant breakthrough against the illegal drug trade, Khatkhati Police carried out a routine inspection that led to the seizure of a substantial quantity of narcotics and the arrest of two individuals. The operation, conducted on Friday afternoon within the jurisdiction of Khatkhati Police Station near the SBI area, once again highlighted the persistent trafficking routes connecting Dimapur to Bokajan.

According to police sources, officers flagged down a truck bearing registration number PB 65 AN 1277 during the search drive. The vehicle, reportedly en route from Dimapur toward Bokajan, raised suspicion, prompting a thorough inspection. Upon examining the truck’s cabin, authorities discovered four packets of suspected cannabis along with a packet of contraband plastic material often used for storing processed narcotics.
Following a detailed assessment, police confirmed the recovery of approximately 2 kilograms and 26 grams of cannabis, along with 178 grams of processed plastic-based narcotics. The items, concealed strategically within the cabin, indicated a deliberate attempt to transport the substances across state lines without detection.
The police apprehended two individuals in connection with the seizure. The arrested suspects were identified as 55‑year‑old Gurpreet Singh, son of Nirmal Singh from Badali in Kharar, Mohali (Punjab), and 35‑year‑old Kulvendra Singh, son of the late Harbansh Singh from Jandiala, Jalandhar (Punjab). Both men are believed to have played roles in transporting the seized narcotics.
The routine checking drive was executed under the leadership of Khatkhati Police Station Officer‑in‑Charge Surya Kumar Bora, accompanied by Sub‑Inspector Debasis Bora, officer Gobin Kakati, and other police personnel. Their coordinated effort ensured that the contraband was detected before it could be transported further.
After the seizure, the narcotics were formally confiscated in the presence of Bokajan Sub‑Divisional Police Officer Rustam Raj Brahma and independent witnesses to maintain procedural transparency. Authorities emphasized that this operation is part of their sustained crackdown on illegal drug movement through the interstate corridor, a route increasingly exploited by traffickers.
