Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has issued a stern warning that no nation should consider compromising India’s territorial integrity, especially regarding the crucial Siliguri Corridor, commonly known as the “Chicken’s Neck.” In his remarks, he highlighted India’s military strength, pointing to the recent Operation Sindoor as evidence of the country’s capabilities. “The world has witnessed India’s military prowess during Operation Sindoor. No country should live under the illusion that it can take over the Chicken’s Neck,” he asserted.
Sarma also addressed ongoing concerns from Bangladesh regarding the corridor. He stated, “Bangladesh has been raising concerns over the Chicken Neck, but let’s be clear they have two such corridors, while India has one. Should they even contemplate targeting ours, we have the capability and right to respond to theirs.” He emphasized the geographical realities, noting that the corridor from Meghalaya to Chittagong port is narrower than India’s and that India is just a call away from addressing any issues there.
Furthermore, Sarma clarified that discussions about the Chicken’s Neck occur strictly within the framework of internet security policy and should not be misinterpreted as provocation. “Others must not misinterpret or attempt to interfere with it,” he cautioned. Reaffirming India’s global status, he remarked, “India’s power has already been demonstrated. I have not even brought our nuclear capability into this conversation. Bangladesh would have to be reborn several times to pose any real threat to India.”
Sarma called for a practical perspective, asserting that India need not place undue emphasis on Bangladesh, referring to it as a “small country” that cannot be compared to India in terms of power or influence.
