
In Sonitpur, Assam, a well-known wild elephant named “Laden” tragically died from electrocution at the New Adabari Tea Estate in Balipara. Laden, respected in the community for its gentle demeanor, was foraging for food when it inadvertently touched a live wire near an office building, leading to its immediate death. This massive tusker was a familiar and non-aggressive presence in the area, having roamed it for years.

Locals, mourning the loss, gathered to pay their respects to the beloved animal, lighting incense sticks and praying for its soul. The incident highlights the ongoing human-wildlife conflict in the region, where the presence of live electric wires poses significant risks to wildlife. Efforts for better coexistence and safety measures are crucial to prevent further such tragedies.
