A 46-year-old woman lost her life amid a violent clash between two armed factions in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district, police reported on Tuesday. The confrontation occurred on Sunday night in the isolated Thangbuh village, leading to additional turmoil in the area.

According to police, several houses in the village were set ablaze, instigating a desperate evacuation of residents to nearby forests for safety. The deceased has been identified as Nemjakhol Lhungdim, whose body was later returned to her family following a post-mortem examination at Churachandpur district hospital.
In response to the escalating law and order situation, a curfew has been imposed in Manipur’s Imphal East and West districts. Authorities noted the exchange of powerful bombs during the clash, exacerbating the chaos.
Further, an exchange of gunfire ensued later that night between militants and CRPF personnel stationed at a local school. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties from this subsequent gunfight.
The incident highlights the ongoing volatility in the region, underscoring the challenges faced by local law enforcement and residents amid frequent outbreaks of violence.
