
A coordination meeting held on September 2 has initiated a significant modernization project for Dimapur Railway Station. The meeting, attended by officials from the Nagaland State Transport Department, Dimapur District Administration, and Northeast Frontier Railways, laid out ambitious plans for the upgrade. The redevelopment, budgeted at ₹283 crore, aims to elevate the station to international standards, enhancing passenger amenities and improving traffic flow within the premises.

State Transport Secretary Robert Longchari emphasized the need to address chronic encroachment issues surrounding the station. He affirmed the state government’s commitment to resolving these challenges and urged the Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR) to commence development work with full support. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Tinojongshi Chang added that a comprehensive survey would be conducted to clear 91 identified cases of encroachment, which is crucial for facilitating the station’s transformation.
The renovation will include high-class facilities and a redesigned layout to significantly enhance the passenger experience. The tendering process for this major upgrade is nearing completion, with construction expected to begin by the end of October or early November.
In addition to discussing the railway station’s upgrade, officials also visited Dimapur Airport to review ongoing and future projects, ensuring cohesive regional development.
