Early morning heavy rainfall on September 1 triggered flash floods across Guwahati, severely disrupting daily life in the city. Several neighborhoods, including Chandmari, Beltola, Hatigaon, Six-mile, Noonmati, and Kahilipara, have been submerged in stormwater, creating chaos for residents.

The continuous downpour has exacerbated the situation, leading to severe urban flooding that is expected to impede traffic movement throughout the day. In response to the escalating flood conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and Guwahati’s Regional Meteorological Centre have issued a heavy rainfall warning for Dispur and Sonapur.
This incident comes after a similar episode of urban flooding on June 5, which also caused significant inconvenience to city dwellers, particularly in areas such as Chandmari, Hatigaon, Sijubari, and Six-mile.
Authorities and residents brace for further challenges as the rains persist.
