Five people from Manipur were detained and a large quantity of narcotics worth approximately 10 crore rupees was seized in an operation conducted by Assam Police in association with the Border Security Force (BSF) in Cachar district on Monday. The vehicle, which had a Meghalaya registration number, was stopped in Chalchapra area after receiving secret information.
The police reported that upon searching the car, they found five packs of 50,000 Yaba pills in secret areas. The international worth of the confiscated drugs was estimated to be around 10 crore rupees. The five people who were taken into custody were Munglian Khup, P. Thangkhan Lun, Dpu Khan Lian, N. Alex Laljahao, and Paulianmuan, all of whom were from Churachandpur district in Manipur.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma gave praise to the security forces for their efforts in a tweet, saying, “Good job Assam Police.” This was in response to reports that a vehicle coming from a nearby state was stopped and searched in the Chalchapra area of Silchar, with the police finding YABA tablets worth ₹10 crore. Five individuals were apprehended in connection to the case, and further investigation is still taking place. The police had learned the drugs had been shipped from Churachandpur district and were headed for Guwahati.
