Four persons, including two children, have died at Dibrugarh’s Assam Medical College Hospital on Monday after consuming mushrooms in Charaideo district recently, an official said.
Eight people had fallen ill after eating mushrooms at Laltipathar village in Sonari town of the district on April six and all of them were admitted to the AMCH in Dibrugarh in a critical condition.
Four of them, two women and two children, died early today while the others are still in a critical condition and battling for their lives.
The dead include 35-year old Rima Karmakar and her 10-year old son Ajay Karmakar, 32-year old Jonaki Praja and 12-year old Chayanika Karmakar.
All the affected are women tea garden workers and their children.
The women had picked up the mushrooms while returning from work in the tea gardens and had cooked it for their children and themselves.
They complained of stomach ache and vomiting since the evening of April six and was initially taken to Charaideo Civil Hospital but as their condition deteriorated, they were shifted to AMCH.
