An under-construction building collapsed in Dhulkot village near Ambala City on Sunday while workers were pouring a concrete roof slab, injuring at least 10 labourers, officials said. Police fear that more workers may be trapped beneath the debris and have launched an urgent search and rescue operation.
All 10 injured labourers were admitted to Ambala Civil Hospital. According to one injured worker, about 10 labourers were working on the ground floor when the collapse occurred, while 15 were engaged in pouring the slab on the upper level.
The incident triggered panic in the surrounding area, with locals beginning rescue efforts before notifying the police and emergency services. Police and senior administrative officials then reached the site with rescue equipment and began clearing the rubble. Heavy earth-moving machines and other machinery were deployed to expedite the operation.
Authorities said medical assistance was being provided to the injured workers and that teams were searching the debris for anyone still trapped. Police will investigate the cause of the collapse after the rescue operation is completed.
