Police in Assam’s Dibrugarh district have detained a man on suspicion of involvement in cattle theft and seized a black luxury vehicle allegedly linked to the crime, police said. The late-night operation, based on specific intelligence inputs, recovered the vehicle from the suspect’s home and led to his arrest for questioning.

The detained individual has been identified as Hriday Gogoi, a resident of Bokul Japisajia village. Officers found the luxury car at Gogoi’s residence and allege the registration number plate affixed to the vehicle was fake, prompting further scrutiny of the vehicle’s provenance and movements.
The raid was carried out around 2 a.m. under the leadership of Gabhurupathar Police Outpost in-charge Alankar Bora. Police personnel reached the suspect’s home, seized the vehicle and took Gogoi into custody to assist with inquiries.
During preliminary interrogation, Gogoi reportedly told investigators that an unidentified person had left the vehicle at his residence and he denied ownership or any involvement in criminal activity. Police say his statement is being verified as part of the probe.
Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to determine the car’s role in the alleged cattle theft incidents and to identify any other individuals involved. Further inquiries and forensic checks on the vehicle and its documents are underway.
