Security forces on Tuesday, February 24 recovered a cache of arms, ammunition and protective gear during a coordinated search operation in Imphal East district of Manipur. The seizure took place in the Nungai Hill Range area under the limits of Sagolmang Police Station, officials said.
According to official sources, the recovered weapons included one country-made rifle and one country-made 9 mm pistol with a magazine. Security personnel also found an HE-36 hand grenade and five rounds of .303 ammunition at the site.
For protective equipment, forces seized a bulletproof jacket fitted with two metal plates, a magazine pouch, two bulletproof helmets and three slings. The mix of weapons and body armour led officials to say the cache was likely intended for use in armed operations.
The recovery was the result of coordinated action by security personnel in the area, officials added. Investigations and further searches in the vicinity are continuing, according to the sources.
