Road accidents across Tripura claimed four lives and left 23 people injured during the six-day Durga Puja period between October 17 and October 22, according to official figures released by Tripura Police. A total of 11 road traffic accident cases were registered across the state during the festive window, comprising four fatal accidents and seven non-fatal incidents, underscoring persistent road safety concerns at a time when roads across the state see heightened traffic.
District-wise data shared by the police shows that West Tripura and Unakoti recorded the highest number of accidents, with three cases each. West Tripura reported one fatal and two non-fatal accidents, which left one person dead and seven others injured. Unakoti mirrored that toll in fatalities, with one death and four injuries reported from one fatal and two non-fatal accidents.
Sepahijala district recorded two non-fatal accidents in which seven people were injured, while North Tripura registered a single non-fatal accident that left two people hurt. Neither district reported any fatalities during the period.
Deadly crashes were also reported from Gomati and Dhalai districts. Gomati registered one fatal accident that claimed one life and left two others injured, while Dhalai reported a fatal accident in which one person died and another sustained injuries.
In contrast, Khowai and South Tripura districts reported no road traffic accidents during the period under review, emerging as the only districts in the state to remain accident-free through the celebrations.
The police figures highlight continuing road safety challenges during Durga Puja, one of the busiest travel periods of the year in Tripura, with fatalities and injuries recorded across several districts. The data serves as a reminder of the risks associated with festive-season travel, even as authorities continue to stress caution on the state’s roads.
