In a significant operation against narcotics trafficking in Assam, the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Cachar District Police, seized heroin valued at around âš60 lakh and arrested a drug peddler on February 2. The operation was initiated based on reliable intelligence, targeting a specific location near the Nandankanan Bridge in the Jirighat Market area, approximately 8 kilometers west of Jaliura.

During the raid, security forces uncovered ten boxes containing a total of 116.2 grams of heroin, which was reportedly intended for illegal distribution in the area. An individual thought to be involved in trafficking was apprehended at the scene. Additionally, the operation led to the confiscation of a mobile phone, âš5,500 in cash, and an auto-rickshaw that was allegedly used to transport the drugs.
Officials noted that the successful operation was the product of effective intelligence sharing, smooth coordination among various agencies, and a quick response on the ground. The confiscated heroin, along with the arrested individual and the seized items, has been handed over to the Cachar District Police for further investigation and legal action.
