A construction worker who suffered an electric shock at a flyover site near Goswami Service in Chandmari is now recovering and out of danger, as reported by doctors at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). The Guwahati Police announced this update through their official ‘X’ handle on Sunday, May 18. “Doctors confirmed he is now out of danger and recovering well,” authorities stated. “Timely action made all the difference.”

The injured worker, identified as Saiful Haque from Halagura in Dhubri, was rescued and rushed to the hospital following a quick response from the Chandmari Police and the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS). The incident occurred on Saturday, May 17, while Haque was engaged in ongoing construction work and came into contact with live electrical wires at the site.
Local residents who witnessed the incident expressed concerns about the lack of safety measures and alleged negligence on the part of the construction contractor. Many fear that similar accidents could happen in the future due to exposed wires in close proximity to construction materials around the city’s flyovers.
