The allegations of a 51-year-old man, Paritosh Ghosh, assaulting a nine-year-old girl have sent shockwaves across the entire Dabaka area, casting a shadow over the traditional celebrations.

According to reports, the unsettling episode unfolded when the child’s mother, who had set up a stall in the local market for the festival, entrusted her neighbor Paritosh Ghosh to accompany her daughter home. What followed was a series of distressing events that have sparked outrage and demands for justice from the community.
Upon returning home after closing her stall, the child’s mother was met with a heart-wrenching account from her daughter, who tearfully recounted the alleged misconduct by Paritosh Ghosh. The gravity of the situation incited the family to immediately inform the villagers, who took swift action in apprehending the accused.
The villagers, fueled by anger and determination for justice, confronted Paritosh Ghosh at his residence. In a dramatic turn of events, they administered their form of retribution before handing him over to the Doboka police. The police have since registered a case under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act based on the complaint filed by the victim’s family.
In a swift legal response, Paritosh Ghosh was presented before the Sankardev Nagar Court in Hojai district and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. The victim’s family, meanwhile, is calling for expedited judicial proceedings, urging that the case be tried in a fast-track court to ensure immediate justice.
The incident has compelled the Hojai district police administration to prioritize the investigation, with the victim’s family pressing for a prompt filing of the charge sheet following a thorough judicial inquiry.
