In a coordinated operation on Tuesday, Tripura Police, along with the Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force, seized contraband worth over Rs 1.6 crores, resulting in the arrest of two women.

In the first operation in West Tripura District, officials, acting on a tip-off, raided the residence of Gouri Debnath in Fultali, near the Indo-Bangladesh border. Sub-divisional Police Officer Sankar Debnath stated that this raid led to the discovery of seven pouches of brown sugar, totaling 100 grams and valued at approximately Rs 6 lakh. Gouri Debnath’s husband, Krishna Debnath, is already implicated in an NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) case.
Simultaneously, in North District, Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty reported the apprehension of Jahanara Begum who had arrived on a train from Silchar to Agartala. Acting on another tip-off, police conducted a joint raid, seizing about 20,000 Yaba tablets valued at around Rs 1 crore. Jahanara Begum, who hails from Boxanagar in Sepahijala District, is scheduled to be presented before the court for police remand.
Both operations underscore the significant efforts by Tripura Police and associated agencies in combating drug trafficking in the region.
