In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Assam Police successfully apprehended a drug supplier with a substantial amount of heroin during a well planned early morning operation. The arrest took place in Kakarajan, under the jurisdiction of Borpathar Police Station in Karbi Anglong District highlighting the ongoing efforts of local authorities to tackle the issue of narcotics in the region.

The operation was conducted at around 7 AM on Sunday when the special checkpoint team led by Assistant Commandant Ravi Gill of the 20th BN CRPF, along with SI Dipen Baruah and other police staff, intercepted a suspicious vehicle. The supplier, identified as Pranab Baruah from Mahadevpur, Arunachal Pradesh, was found transporting 271.17 grams of suspected heroin concealed ingeniously in his vehicle.
Baruah had hidden the heroin inside the wiper compartment of the bonnet of his Hyundai vehicle, bearing the registration number AS 23 AG 0299. Further, the drugs were ingeniously packed inside 24 soap boxes to evade detection, showcasing the lengths to which smugglers will go to transport narcotics.
The operation was not just a result of a routine check but was based on actionable intelligence, reflecting the proactive stance of the Assam Police against drug trafficking. The presence of Sub-Divisional Police Officer Rustamraj Brahma and impartial witnesses ensured the legitimacy and transparency of the seizure. The heroin was confiscated, and Pranab Baruah was taken into custody.
