The Government of Assam has been providing laptops and cash awards to students who secure 1st division in the HSLC and High Madrassa Examinations of SEBA and 10th standard examinations held under State Madrassa Education Board, Assam and Sanskrit Board Assam since 2005, under the ‘Anundoram Barooah Cash-cum Laptop Award Scheme’.
The aim of the scheme is to motivate and inspire students to perform better and gain first-hand experience with Information and Communication Technology.
Starting from 2017, the scheme has been revised to provide laptops and cash awards to those students who secure ‘Star marks’ in the HSLC and High Madrassa Examinations. This year, the government has conferred the Anundoram Baruah Award to 27,183 meritorious HSLC students, recognizing their achievements with a ₹15,000 cash prize each.
Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the ceremony at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra, Guwahati, while other districts also held simultaneous ceremonies. The initiative aims to encourage and reward academic excellence in the state.
