On Wednesday, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam and his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma inaugurated a Karbi Hemtun, or Karbi Bhawan, built at a cost of ₹21.5 crore by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, in Shillong. Additionally, the two Chief Ministers also laid the foundation stone for the construction of a 100-bedded Karbi Students\’ Hostel cum Commercial Complex, with a project cost of approximately ₹22 crore.

The Karbi Hemtun, which is a modern building with facilities such as conference halls, dormitories for boys and girls, restaurant, suite rooms, gym, and more, can accommodate up to 50 guests at a time. At the Ceremonies, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma expressed his confidence that the newly inaugurated Karbi Hemtun would be of great help for residents of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council of Assam visiting Shillong.
He also expressed hope that the commercial complex in the hostel premises would help strengthen the financial health of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council. Furthermore, Dr. Sarma highlighted the commitment of the current dispensation in the State towards growth and development in Karbi Anglong and commended Chief Executive of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Tuliram Ronghang for overseeing the never-before-seen peace and development in Karbi Anglong.
Dr. Sarma also thanked his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma for his role in the Karbi Hemtun project in Shillong and expressed hope of an amicable and logical solution to the long-standing border issues between Assam and Meghalaya. He further expressed his gratitude to the current Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) regime at the Centre for making the Northeastern region an epicenter of peace and development, thereby no longer making the region a distant name for the people belonging to the rest of the parts of the country.
Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, Chief Executive of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council P. Syiem, Chief Executive of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Tuliram Ronghang, Member of Parliament Horen Sing Bey, Members of Legislative Assembly Bidya Sing Engleng, Rup Sing Teron, Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly Dr. Numal Momin, and other dignitaries were also present at the Ceremonies.
