In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Assam Police recovered 1,420 kg of cannabis from a truck in Karimganj district on Saturday. The truck was intercepted by the police near the Assam-Tripura border and the driver was arrested. The cannabis, also known as ganja, was concealed in 71 packets inside the truck.
The police said that the cannabis was sourced from Tripura and was being transported to Bihar. The police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and are investigating the involvement of any other persons or groups in the drug racket:
