Guwahati : Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Friday urged youths in the state to explore possibilities in the livestock and poultry sectors as there is immense possibilities in these areas.
Livestock and poultry sectors have immense potential to generate employment and boost the rural economy, the Chief Minister said while inaugurating the National Livestock and Poultry Show 2019 here.
“Assam is the first state in the country to have adopted the Policy for Private Investment Promotion in Livestock Sector which will be implemented from January next year to encourage youth of the state to engage in the sector”, Sonowal said.
He urged farmers in the state to work dedicatedly to fulfil the requirement of five crore population of North East region.
“Instead of importing egg, meat, milk and milk products etc from outside the state, efforts must be made by all stakeholders to make Assam an exporting state of these products by increasing its production”, he asserted.
Union Minister of Animal Husbandry, Dairy and Fisheries Giriraj Singh said there was a lot of scope for developing NE region as an export hub of poultry, livestock meats, eggs etc through adoption of latest technology.
He also informed that his Ministry would provide adequate funds to the state government for training more than four thousand youths of the state on artificial insemination of animals.
“These trained youths would later help the farmers and rearers in interior places to raise livestock and increase income”, he said.
He also stressed on the need to set up a Livestock Technology Park and assured all help from the central government in this regard.
Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora also spoke on the occasion and hoped the National Livestock and Poultry Show will be able to show the right direction to the young generation to find self-employment in poultry and live-stock sector.
