Guwahati : Paying rich tributes to Bharat Ratna awardee Dr Bhupen Hazarika on his 8th death anniversary on Tuesday, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said people must realise the true essence of the Maestro’s songs to take forward the state in the 21st century.
Taking part in the programme to mark the occasion, Sonowal urged the people to follow the ideals propagated by Dr Hazarika in his songs like “We’re in the Same Boat Brother” and “Jilikabo Luitore Paar” which is the anthem of Gauhati University composed by the Bard of Assam saying its students with the light of knowledge will brighten the banks of river Brahmaputra or Louit as locally known.
Urging the youth to take the responsibility of ushering in a period of development and growth for Assam through hard work and dedication, he referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s untiring zeal to make India a top country as an inspiring example.
Calling upon the youth of the state to work for preserving the unity and harmony of the Assamese society in the face of newer challenges, Sonowal said Dr Hazarika’s songs carried deeper meanings of life and they were not just mere words of literature.
He said that people must realise the essence of Dr Hazarika’s songs so that Assam’s true potential could be harnessed to propel it on the path of rapid development.
It is paramount to leave narrow mindedness to excel in today’s competitive world equipped with knowledge, he asserted speaking at the programme organised by the Cultural Directorate, Government of Assam at the premises of the late doyen’s Samadhi Kshetra at Jalukbari in the city.
Saying that many of Dr Hazarika’s songs were imbued with spirituality and devotion, the Chief Minister stated that people must always be guided by conscience and morality to fulfil the idea of a just and humane society. Urging all sections of the society to join hands to sustain peace and harmony in the state, Sonowal said that it is important to leave behind all limitations to build a society on peace and happiness.
