A significant fire erupted late on the night of January 16 at a wholesale medicine shop in Dhubri, Assam, leading to widespread panic and estimated losses exceeding Rs 10 lakh, according to officials. The blaze reportedly began inside the closed store, situated in a busy market area. Residents living nearby noticed flames and smoke rising from the premises and quickly contacted fire and emergency services.

Responding promptly to the alarming situation, two fire tenders arrived at the scene to combat the fire. Firefighters worked diligently to bring the inferno under control, successfully preventing it from spreading to adjacent shops and nearby homes. Despite their efforts, the fire inflicted substantial damage to the store, destroying a significant stock of medicines and other valuable assets.
Initial assessments suggest the losses could surpass Rs 10 lakh. Local residents and shop owners have speculated that a short circuit may have ignited the fire, although the precise cause remains unconfirmed. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the fire’s origin. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or casualties during the incident.
