The Margherita Sub-Divisional Magistrate Court has made history by issuing its first-ever life imprisonment sentence on May 19, closing a seven-year legal ordeal. Monteswar Dohotia has been sentenced to life for the 2018 murder of his uncle, Bimal Dohotia. The verdict, delivered by Additional Session Judge Anil Kumar Basfor, signifies a pivotal moment for the court.

This case, identified as Session Case No. 17(M)/2020, originated from an incident reported under Bordumsa Police Station Case No. 42/2018. Monteswar and his accomplice, Pabitra Dohotia, were accused of murdering Bimal. While Monteswar has been convicted, Pabitra remains at large, having avoided capture since the crime.
Both defendants are from 1 No. Mohong Shantipur, falling under the jurisdiction of Bordumsa Police Station in the Margherita Co-District. Monteswar is the son of Phuleswar Dohotia, while Pabitra is the son of Kulai Dohotia.
Community leaders have lauded the ruling, expressing hope that this decisive measure will serve as a deterrent against violent crime in the area.
