In a significant blow to drug traffickers, the Cachar Police in Assam have arrested ten individuals and seized a substantial quantity of suspected heroin in four separate operations. The coordinated raids, carried out based on credible intelligence inputs, were confirmed by Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta during a press briefing on Monday.

The police confiscated 416 grams of suspected heroin, valued at approximately ₹2 crore on the black market, with all substances sealed in the presence of independent witnesses.
Those arrested in the operations include Makbul Hussain of Dholai, Jamaluddin of Sonai, Dilbar Hussain (24) and Kamrul Islam (26) from Hailakandi, and Anar Hussain from Saidpur, among others.
The police also made additional arrests during a separate raid in Silchar. Preliminary investigations have revealed links to a trafficking network operating out of neighbouring Mizoram, with the narcotics being illegally transported from Aizawl, Mizoram.
This is the second major drug seizure by the district police within the past 20 days, with a earlier bust on March 25 resulting in the confiscation of 60,000 Yaba tablets, worth ₹20 crore, near the Mizoram border.
SP Mahatta emphasized that the crackdown is part of the district police’s broader campaign against interstate trafficking. “The district is being used as a transit point by traffickers from neighbouring states, and we are determined to dismantle this network,” he told The Assam Tribune, underscoring the police’s commitment to tackling the issue.
The Cachar Police’s efforts have been met with praise, with the Superintendent highlighting the importance of dismantling the trafficking network.
“We have been working tirelessly to disrupt the illegal drug trade in the region, and this seizure is a significant milestone in our efforts,” Mahatta said. The police are continuing their investigations into all four cases, with the aim of bringing those responsible to justice.
The seizure is a significant victory in the fight against drug trafficking, with Assam being a major hub for such activities. The state has been working to combat the issue, with increased surveillance and raids aimed at disrupting the supply chain. The Assam government has also implemented several measures to reduce drug addiction, including rehabilitation centers and counseling services.
As the police continue their efforts to dismantle the network, the people of Assam can take heart in knowing that the authorities are committed to keeping the state safe from the scourge of drug trafficking.
With the number of seizures and arrests on the rise, it is clear that the police are making progress in their battle against the illegal drug trade.u The people of Assam can expect to see more such results in the coming days and weeks as the police work to eradicate this menace from the state.
