In a significant breakthrough, Assam police successfully intercepted a substantial drug consignment valued at approximately Rs 1 crore on Monday morning. The operation, which unfolded around 8 AM in Khatkhati, led to the arrest of three individuals suspected of being involved in the trafficking of heroin. This decisive action underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to dismantle drug networks in the region.

According to reliable sources, the incident occurred during a routine police checkpoint near the State Bank of India branch in Khatkhati. Officers conducting the operation stopped a Maruti Suzuki Alto with registration number AS 01 V 7436, traveling from Moshipur towards Arunachal. Upon inspection, the police discovered a significant stash of heroin concealed within 10 soap cases, weighing approximately 117.52 grams in total.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Arunachal Pradesh residents Nong Irang, aged 42, and Taram Riyan and Biraj Mali, both aged 29. Law enforcement officials have disclosed that investigations are ongoing to uncover further details regarding the supply chain and potential links to larger drug networks.
The checkpoint operation was led by Bokajan Sub-Divisional Police Officer Rustamraj Brahma, with support from Khatkhati Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nitul Saikia, Sub-Inspectors Jitumoni Saikia and Amar Jyoti Saikia, along with other station staff. Their coordinated efforts played a crucial role in the successful interception and subsequent arrests.
In a related development, on the previous night around 9 PM, Khatkhati police, acting on a tip-off, conducted another operation resulting in the arrest of two more drug suppliers. The raid, executed on Monday morning, was orchestrated based on intelligence gathered concerning narcotics trafficking near the Assam-Nagaland border at Kaliram Basti.
Under the supervision of Bokajan Sub-Divisional Police Officer and led by Khatkhati Officer-in-Charge, the police team executed the operation with precision. As a result, they apprehended two individuals—Dhan Bahadur Khwar from Manipur’s Senapati district and Gamminchon Changloi—suspected of being involved in the drug trade. The police seized approximately 1.5 kilograms of brown sugar from the suspects, further bolstering their case against the drug syndicate.
