The Longding police have apprehended seven individuals, including two government employees, in the high-profile Ganga-Jullang sexual assault case. The arrested government employees are Chaya Dulom (45), an attendant at the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) in Naharlagun, and her husband, David Dulom (34), a supervisor at the Water Resource Development Department.
This incident marks the second time a DHS employee has faced allegations of involvement in a sex racket, following the arrest of Dr. Senlar Ronya, Deputy Director DHS, in an inter-state sex trafficking case in May.
The main accused, Rahul Gurung (26), hails from Harmuti Tea Estate in the Lakhimpur district and currently resides near RP Gate Chimpu, Itanagar. Other arrested individuals include Amarinder Kr. Sah (30) and Karna Das (36) from East Champaran, Bihar; Dali Tagio (39) from Richukrong village, East Kameng; and Suman Sonar (31) from Bagorpothar village, Sonitpur, Assam. Aside from the husband-wife duo and Gurung, the remaining arrestees have been identified as customers in the case.
According to Longding SP Dekio Gumja, five victims have filed FIRs at the Longding police station, initially starting with three complaints. The victims were allegedly lured from Longding to Itanagar under the guise of job offers, only to be trapped in the sexual exploitation racket.
SP Gumja explained that a special investigation team, led by the Deputy SP headquarters and comprising an inspector and two sub-inspectors, is delving deeper into the case. They are assessing the potential involvement of influential individuals and ensuring that no innocent person is implicated.
Given the severity and sensitivity of the case, the police are collaborating with Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), the District Child Welfare Committee, and the Wancho Welfare Association to ensure the protection and care of the victims. “This case is a top priority, and we are treating it with the utmost seriousness,” SP Gumja declared.
