In a heartfelt video that went viral, Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat was seen breaking down in tears upon seeing her family and close friends. “I thank everyone in the country. I feel very fortunate,” Vinesh expressed.

Vinesh had successfully secured a spot in the final of the Women’s 50kg wrestling event at the Paris Olympics 2024, sparking hopes for an Indian medal. However, this happiness was short-lived. On the day of her gold-medal match, she was disqualified for being 100 grams overweight during a second weigh-in.
Disappointed, Vinesh requested a joint silver medal— a plea that was denied by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Before returning to India, she voiced her profound disappointment over missing out on an Olympic medal, tying her sentiment to her ongoing fight for women’s rights in India. Vinesh had previously protested against the former chief of the wrestling federation.
