
On Sunday ,the Karbi Anglong district administration, in collaboration with the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Assam, commemorated the death anniversary of freedom fighter Tarun Ram Phukan with a heartfelt celebration of Patriotism Day in Diphu.

The event, held at the Agriculture Bhawan in Diphu, began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp in front of a portrait of Tarun Ram Phukan, followed by a commemorative assembly. The assembly saw participation from several distinguished guests who expressed their admiration for the state’s initiative and its potential impact on the younger generation.
Padma Shri awardee and renowned poet Dhaneswar Engti, along with senior journalist Mukul Chandra Barua, attended the event as special guests. Both praised the government’s efforts, emphasizing that such events play a crucial role in shaping the values and aspirations of the rising generation. “Celebrations like these not only honor our past heroes but also serve as a beacon of inspiration for the youth,” noted Barua.
Additionally, acclaimed writer Geeta Borah delivered an insightful speech highlighting Tarun Ram Phukan’s life and contributions. She emphasized how Phukan, despite being born into a wealthy family, renounced comfort and luxury to selflessly serve the people. “His commitment to the freedom struggle and his selfless service to society are exemplary and continue to inspire us,” Borah remarked.
The event also featured an essay competition for students, focused on the life and works of Tarun Ram Phukan. Awards were presented to the winners, further encouraging the youth to delve deeper into the history of India’s freedom movement and its unsung heroes.
The Deputy Director of the District Information and Public Relations Department, Gagan Narzari, and District Public Relations Officer, Utpal Dimasa, were also present, adding to the significance of the event. Their presence underscored the importance of such initiatives in fostering a sense of national pride and historical awareness among the community.
The celebration of Patriotism Day in Karbi Anglong District was not just a tribute to Tarun Ram Phukan but also a call to action for the younger generation. By honoring the legacy of such a dedicated freedom fighter, the event emphasized the values of selflessness, dedication, and patriotism.
