After being presented in court today, Subhalakshmi Dutta, the suspended Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) of Assam’s Charaideo district, was remanded to three days of police custody by the Sivasagar Police. The abuse case, which caused shock throughout the region, involved pouring hot water onto the victim’s body and confining her to a bathroom, prompting the victim to file a complaint at the Nazira police station.
In response to Dutta’s surrender, Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh issued a statement on social media, emphasizing the police’s unwavering stance against crimes against women and children.
Dutta’s surrender came after she had been absconding since August 26, following a case filed against her by Anima Praja, a domestic help working at her residence in Nazira. Praja’s harrowing complaint alleged that Dutta had attempted to murder her and subjected her to brutal torture during her time as domestic help.
