Barpeta: A most wanted hardcore jehadi of the JMB Islamic terrorist organisation operating out of Bangladesh has been arrested in Barpeta district in lower Assam and forwarded to police custody.
The Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen cadre identified as Ajaharuddin absconding since the 2014 Burdwan blast, was arrested on Wednesday at his Roumari Pathar village under Tarabari Police Station when he had come there to visit his home, district Superintendent of Police Dr Robin Kumar told reporters here on Thursday
Acting on a tip off, Kumar directed Bhawanipur Police Output Incharge Dipak Borgayary to arrest Ajahar as he arrived in the district from Haryana.
Police and army had been searching for Ajaharuddin for a long time after he had joined the terror outf mkit in 2013 and absconding since the Burdwan blast in 2014, the SP said.
Police recovered a passport, two pan cards, ATM, voter ID, etc., cards from Ajaharuddin who took jehadi training at Chatala village, Barpeta, Laarkuchi village of Nalbari and in West Bengal, Kumar said.
The JMB terrorist was yesterday produced in Bajali additional district and session court which forwarded him to seven days police custody
His interrogation is going on to find out the root of jehadi and taken to different police stations for finding out the clues of jehadis in the district, the SP added.
