Guwahati: A daily direct flight between the capital cities of Assam’s Guwahati and Mizoram’s Aizawl began operations on Tuesday by the domestic carrier Go Air.
The direct flight from Guwahati’s Lokopriyo Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport was inaugurated today by Airport Authority Of India North East Region’s (AAI-NER) Regional Executive Director Sanjeev Jindal.
The daily flight will be a relief for working people, visitors, patients, students of Mizoram and North East Region and also enhance the tourism sector, a release issued by AAI-NER said.
The flight on its arrival at Aizawl airport was accorded a water cannon salute by Airports Authority of India.
The arriving passengers of Go air flight G8 248 were accorded blue carpet welcome at the airport.
Mizo cultural dances were also held as a part of the inauguration to greet them.
The Go Air’s return flight from Aizawl’s Lengpui Airport was flagged off by Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga.
The daily schedule of the flight was departure from Guwahati at 6:30 a.m and arrival in Aizawl at 7:50 a.m while the departure from Aizawl was 08:40 am and arrival at Gauhati was ar 09:50 am.
