ASSAM TIMES POST
Guwahati : BJP is indulging in ”dirty votebank politics” with the intent to ”consolidate Hindutva votebank”, CPI-M General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said here on Friday.
The package of NPR, NRC and CAA has been brought by the BJP to create rift between Hindus and Muslims, leading to tension, an atmosphere of fear and violence to polarise the nation communally.
”The BJP is deliberately indulging in ‘samprayadik dhruvikaran'(communal polarisation) and dirty votebank politics with the intention of Hindutva votebank consolidation”, Yechury said while addressing an anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) Rally organised by his party.
The BJP is trying to create the communal votebank by ”creating differences between Hindus and Muslims, other communities and also by attacking women which is weakening the unity and integrity of the nation”.
”This is very dangerous for both the present and the future of the country”, he said.
Yechury pointed out that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had posted a video on the BJP website, which has been now withdrawn, wherein he had explained that people should ”understand the chronology that the National Population Register (NPR) will come first, on this basis the NRC will be prepared and those non-Muslims whose names will not figure in the NRC will be given citizenship under the CAA’.
”Shah had said that the Muslims need not worry but was left unsaid was that they will be thrown out. This communal divide has been done deliberately to create tension between the Hindus and the Muslims”, he added.
The basic question that arises now is ”where in the Constitution it is written that citizenship will be connected to religion. We are against this violation in the CAA and the entire country is fighting against this to safeguard the constitution and the nation”, the CPI-M leader said.
