On Saturday, Congress made significant changes to its structure in preparation for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, including removing Priyanka Gandhi as the party’s leader in Uttar Pradesh.
The grand old party has chosen former Rajasthan deputy CM Sachin Pilot to lead the Chhattisgarh Congress and has put Ramesh Chennithala in charge of Maharashtra.
Congress stated that Priyanka Gandhi will retain her position as the party’s general secretary, but without any specific duties or responsibilities.
Avinash Pande will be the head of the party in Uttar Pradesh and Mukul Wasnik will take up the same role in Gujarat.
The decision to take away Priyanka Gandhi’s duties in Uttar Pradesh has happened amidst rumors that INDIA’s opposition bloc could put forward a strong contender against Prime Minister Modi in the upcoming general election from Varanasi.
It was previously suggested that the party might take away Priyanka Gandhi’s position as the Uttar Pradesh in-charge, in order to give her a more substantial role in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Names of influential politicians such as Priyanka Gandhi and Nitish Kumar have been mentioned as potential contenders.
