On September 12, three people from Manipur were arrested in Guwahati following the seizure of drugs worth around Rs 18 crore. The source information received indicated that a Thar bearing the registration number AS 01 FM 7800 was transporting drugs from Churachandpur in Manipur to the lower areas of Assam.
Consequently, the vehicle was stopped at Saraighat in Kamrup and the three Manipur-based peddlers were apprehended. In addition, three Assam-based peddlers were detained from Sachika Hotel at Amingaon.
After searching the vehicle, 170 packets of heroin, weighing 2kg 200gms, were found in hidden compartments. The combined forces of STF and Kamrup Police conducted the operation under the supervision of Parthasarathi Mahanta, DIG STF. Legal action will be taken at Amingaon outpost.
