AASU decide to state-wide protest against CAB, big dams at Jonai meet

Guwahati: From November 4, the All Assam Students’ Union alias AASU will launch mass agitation across the state against the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and construction of big dams in state. The decision was taken at the general body meeting of the organization in Jonai of Dhemaji. Regarding it, Chief Adviser of AASU, Dr. Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya said, ‘We are strictly against the CAB and construction of big dams on rivers in Assam. We will not accept it if the government tries to impose on us forcefully and nobody will be spared.’ He again said that the agitation starting with demonstration at all district headquarters. After that AASU will go to all villages and try to convince people to stand against this decision. He questioned the government that why it is going ahead with construction of the 2,000 MW Subansiri hydro-electric project by NHPC when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had voiced their opposition against big dams during the election campaign. On jobs in Northeast Frontier Railway, AASU President Dipanka Kumar Nath said that government should give employment to unemployed youths of this region. Here, AASU General Secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said that they will contact all the 30 indigenous organizations, who had protested jointly with AASU when the Bill was introduced in Parliament last time, to carry forward their struggle against “the fascist decision” of this government.
