In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi expressed his respects, marking the occasion with a message of tribute. Similarly, Congress leaders also commemorated Nehru’s legacy, with Priyanka Gandhi offering her respects at Shanti Van in Delhi. Rahul Gandhi and the Congress President echoed these sentiments online.
November 14 is annually celebrated as Children’s Day in India, honoring Nehru’s legacy and his profound fondness for children. Known affectionately as “Chacha Nehru,” he advocated for the importance of nurturing love and affection for the younger generations. Following his passing in 1964, his birthday was officially designated as National Children’s Day by a resolution passed in the Indian Parliament, shifting the celebration from the United Nations-declared date of November 20.
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, born on November 14, 1889, in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, played a crucial role in India’s fight for independence and subsequently became the country’s first Prime Minister upon gaining freedom on August 15, 1947.
In recognition of his contributions and affection for children, various activities such as games and competitions are organized in schools nationwide, while state and national government bodies hold events in his memory.
