On Sunday, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge reconstituted the party’s top decision-making body, the Congress Working Committee (CWC), including some leaders from the G23 grouping who had previously criticized the party leadership. Among the 84 members of the new CWC, there are 39 regular members, 32 permanent invitees, and 13 special invitees.

Regular members include Shashi Tharoor, Anand Sharma, Mukul Wasnik, and Sachin Pilot, who have been part of the group of dissident leaders. Manish Tewari and Veerappa Moily, also part of the group, have been made permanent invitees. Notable exclusions include Raghuveer Singh Meena, Jai Prakash Aggarwal, Dinesh Gundu Rao, H K Patil, K H Muniappa, P L Punia, Pramod Tiwari, and Raghu Sharma. The new CWC also includes Charanjit Singh Channi, Pratibha Singh, Ashokrao Chavan, N Raghuveera Reddy, Tamradhwaj Sahu, Deepa Das Munshi, Syed Naseer Hussain, Mahendrajeet Singh Malviya, G A Mir, Gourav Gogoi, and Jagdish Thakore as regular members. Kanhaiya Kumar, Mohan Prakash, K Raju, Chandrakant Handore, Meenakshi Natarajan, Phulo Devi Netam, Sudeep Roy Burman, Damodar Raja Narasimha, Gurdeep Sappal, and Sachin Rao have been made permanent invitees.
Former Union minister Pallam Raju, Pawan Khera, Ganesh Godiyal, Kodikkunil Suresh, Yashomati Thakur, Supriya Shrinate, Priniti Shinde, Alka Lamba, and Vamshi Chand Reddy are included as special invitees. This new CWC has been formed in preparation for upcoming assembly polls and the 2024 general elections. It is the first CWC formed under Mallikarjun Kharge’s presidency.
